Serving the community in practical ways.

The eighth of the Nine Marks of Mission adopted by the diocese as part of the 'Casting the Net' initiative reads thus:

Serving the community in practical ways,
reaching out to others, especially those in need

This reaching out is something that has always been part of the life of All Saints, from the early days when it was known as 'the Bundle Kirk' from the bundles of food and clothing that were distributed to those in need;through the club rooms in Castle Wynd House (not to mention the gymnasium); to the present day: the Ladyhead and the many community and university groups that make use of the premises, week in and week out.

The net is being spread a little wider. Recently, a former Rector's Warden, Robert Blackwood, walked the last eight stages of the Camino, the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela, to raise money for HIV and AIDS-affected women in Zimbabwe. Robert managed to raise over £1,000, £500 of it coming from the Ladyhead - who also supported the work of the Maggie's Centres and Families First with recent donations.
